Your writers create an anthology
Available world-wide
Part 1
Alpha and Omega is the fifth annual anthology by writers from my area of Australia.
We have more than 20 writers each year contribute short stories and poetry.
As a journalist, I am the only professional writer in our group but we have produced a good-looking product with some cracking yarns and thoughtful poetry.
Writers’ groups of any longevity invariably produce an anthology or two with contributions from members. These books are usually produced and sold cheaply. Whoever volunteers their time edits the book. It is a good system which works.
But we were more ambitious. When I say “we” I mean members of the Arts Alliance Pine Rivers (AAPR). I was a foundation member of the Alliance which we set up as an umbrella organization for branches of the arts: visual, performance, literary and digital. At a meeting, someone suggested AAPR fund an anthology to support our members who were writers. We would ask our visual artists to illustrate the stories.
We set up an editorial committee and found a commercial sponsor. We were up and running as in down writing and drawing.
We might re-cap right here in case we are staggering into “we cannot do that” territory.
- Your writers’ group, book club, art group, university of the 3rd Age class, friends group, Goodreads group might decide to produce an anthology. That’s it: make a pact to do it.
- Ask a local business to sponsor it. A real estate agent is good because they can give copies to new residents. The late Peter Campbell was a fantastic sponsor of all five of our anthologies.
- Appoint a voluntary editorial team and decide how you are to publish.
If you buy a print or eBook copy of Alpha and Omega and post a review, we will send all the support material you need for your project. Email bentbananabooks@gmail.com.
Look for Part 2 of how to publish your anthology.
Here is our song. I've done it before, What can I say. I luv it.
